The old brass nut and lead screw assembly is vastly becoming obsolete as HMT will no longer produce these items. Current inventory for these items is quite low in number.

The new ball screw adaption and assembly is placed on the intermediated slide and is part of the retrofit package. The modification adds smooth and quite movement of the drill head across the slide (Y-axis), this also results in a strengthened support of the head in any machine mounted position.

The drill head and gearing assemblies are now placed on the machine and given a manual function check-out for freedom of movement and precision. Also, machines having angular support rails will be modified to include additional main rail support tabs after which they are painted and mounted. For machines without support rails, HMT recommends installing support rails to give greater support and mounting capability. There is an additional expense for support rail installation.

Gearboxes and motors are now installed and aligned prior to final wiring and control installation. Customers that do not currently have a 7.5hp spindle drive motor may elect to have one installed along with new pulleys, bushings and belt (additional expense items).

The control cabinet (shown mounted to the drill head), limit switches and stops, and detachable handheld pendant with 7' cable pigtail are installed on the unit.

Pre-wired control components upon the cabinet backplane are now installed into the cabinet. Next, final wire-up to the external motors, limit switches and handheld pendant takes place.

Control features include cabinet cooler units that maintain climate control of the interior control components. Accomplished by removing residual heat buildup, these units protect the operational components from heat related failures and keep them free from dirt and moisture.
